CINEMATOGRAPHY 

Starting his career in the UK as a clapper loader, Les progressed through focus pulling to camera operation, working on films including Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Beatles’ Let It Be.

Les has worked with and been mentored by legendary cinematographers including David Watkin, BSC, Billy Williams OBE, BSC, Freddie Young OBE, BSC, Jack Hildyard, BSC, Nicolas Roeg, CBE, BSC and Alex Thomson, BSC.

Since moving to Sydney in 1982, Les has continued his career as a freelance camera operator as well as setting up a commercial production company. Since 1999, Les has taught cinematography at schools including Sydney Film School (SFS), the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and Australian Institute of Music (AIM). Les has worked with camera and cinematography technologies including 300 frame-per-second ultra-slow motion, stop motion single frame, in-camera multi/double exposure, extreme macro shooting, cine strobe light photography, aerial helicopter filming and in-camera special effects.
